Foreword

Kivells are delighted to have received instructions on behalf of Dafydd, Helen & Tanwen Cox to disperse their noted Glanmor herd of Pedigree Jerseys and Guernseys.

I always said I wouldn’t be milking cows at the age of 50 and funnily enough, my body has helped me with that decision. My back is never going to improve when I am milking in our Abreast parlour. We made the decision to sell in 2017 and decided that 2019 would be the right time for us, as it wasn’t going to clash with any of Tanwens exams. You become a lot more conscious of time the older you get and its just time to have weekends off, have a family holiday and spend time with loved ones. Simple things that we haven’t had time to do!

We won the tenancy to Parcgwyn in November 2000 and 52 cows arrived from the Cockerills herd in Devon 4 days before Christmas! Our first Christmas here came and went in a blur.

When we arrived, Parcgwyn was 66 acres with 52 cubicles and today is now 250 acres with cubicles for 120 and we have worked hard over the years to make the farm a viable Dairy unit. Hopefully, the council will re-let the farm, so another young farmer can realise their dreams.

We have been very fortunate to live our dream, not everyone gets to do that. The cows have been our pride and joy and they have looked after us through all the bad times and the good.

There have been Champions, Supreme Champions and a bull at stud, but the herd has always been commercially managed. The show cows live with the rest of the herd and are managed the same as all the other cows. We have been fortunate to have worked with some amazing cows. Too many to list, but having the first and only 96 point Guernseys EVER in the UK is special. Glanmor Hercules Okapi EX96 will be sold in the sale and a daughter of Briddleford Laredos Bluebell EX96, Global Guernsey cow of the Year in 2016 will also be sold. The Wishful, Whisky, Finble, Smot, Peace families also deserve their mention, along with some special individuals over the years - Phlox, Wennol, Florrie, Rest to name a few and new young stars like Disney and Volvic. The potential in the youngstock is very exciting!!

There is something for everyone in the sale, from show cows to good farm cows. I have no doubt that they will try their hardest for their new owners, as they have done for us. Don’t be put off by the flashy catalogue, we have had so many amazing photos of our cows over the years, it would be a shame not to use them!!

Good Luck, we wish you all well and look forward to seeing you all on the 16th!

Helen, Dafydd and Tanwen
