Carlisle Jersey Cattle Show & Sale
Wednesday 17th April 2019
Borderway Mart Rosehill Carlisle CA1 2RS
The Ribble Jersey Herd from Lancashire must be congratulated on the exceptional quality of the special group of 21 heifers they consigned to the April spring sale. All the heifers were well grown and displayed huge potential to develop into amazing young cows. Two heifers that need recognition in this report, firstly Ribble Topeka Clover sired by Topeka and bred from four generations of Very Good dams and all with impressive production. Clover was due to River Valley Circus Craze (sexed) in May and could be a heifer to lookout for in the summer show circuit this year.
Once again FDL Barcelona daughters came to the top this time it was Ribble Barcelona Marqi who caught the attention of the ringside. This January born calf oozed style and sold for 1,050gns topping the heifer calf section and now goes to M. King in N.Ireland.
Topping the Jersey trade was a grand daughter of the Queen of the Breed, Duncan Belle consigned by Rob & Yvonne Willison from Kendal. Helisington On Time Belle was sired by On Time and bred from an EX94 Whistler dam. This perfectly balanced heifer was sold for 2,300gns to Cowhill Trust, Dumfries.

RIBBLE JERSEY HERD FOREWORD
It seems a lifetime ago but in October 2015 Paul Ingham took over the famous and highly
respected Ribblesdale Jersey herd from Ian & Sally Macalpine, since then the prefix has
changed to the RIBBLE Jersey herd.
This was an amazing opportunity as the herd had recently won the Gold Cup Award and had
placed in the final three on numerous occasions. Since then Paul has strived to improve the
herd with the results speaking for themselves. Currently the herd is averaging just over 7500kgs
at 6% butterfat and over 4% protein.
Showing has recently become a way for the herd to promote their genetics taking part in local
and National Show such as UK Dairy Expo placing fourth this year in a massive class of two year
olds with Ribble Yegabomb Lisa.
The very BEST sires have been used with the heifers selling sired by FDL BARCELONA,
FOURCROSSES ONTIME STAG, AHLEM GENOMINATOR, DUTCH HOLLOW VALENTE,
SUNSET CANYON DAVID & SAXOWN KAISER CHIEF.
The In-Calf heifers are due to RIVER VALLEY CIRCUS GRAZE (SEXED SEMEN) an early
Lemonhead son with a super balanced proof and a number are also due to the Angus. The
young maiden heifers display enormous potential bred from highly classified dams many with
The herd health is exceptional. The herd is an accredited BVD free herd and is tested clear of
Lepto. The only vaccination is for IBR and the herd is tested for Johnes. The herd is TB free
and in a four year TB testing area.
