Helsington Jersey Youngstock Dispersal

A massive crowd of buyers from across the UK and Ireland packed the ringside at Borderway for the February Border & Lakeland show and sale on Wednesday 13th February 2019 that also included the dispersal of the Helsington Jersey young stock.

The Willison family from Cinderbarrow Farm, Kendal dispersed their pedigree Jersey youngstock following the sale of their milking herd in 2018. The Helsington herd was a high productive, highly efficient herd averaging almost 6000kgs with butterfat at 6.56% and protein at 3.83%.

The sale started with 19 in-calf heifers that averaged £1446 and topped at 1,800gns was Helsington Lemonhead Quickthorn who was due in March to Bayview Barnabas Elton. This powerful framed heifer was bred from an Excellent dam with production over 8000kgs. She was purchased by Messrs Clark, Kirtlebridge, Lockerbie.

There was an outstanding group of bulling heifers that had recently went with the bull in January, they averaged £1120 and topped at 1,600gns for Helsington Tequila Kimberley. She was sired by type leader Towe Vue Prime Tequila and bred from an Excellent dam by Avery Action. She now joins the herd of Messrs Coates, Tarpoley, Cheshire.

The heifer calves were a credit to the Willison family and topped at 1,400gns for a granddaughter of the 2009 Royal Show Champion Potterswalls Vindication Nikki EX94. This ultra fancy heifer was sired by Ontime Stag and was bought by the Bowness family from Threapland Lees Farm, Wigton. The younger summer calves topped at 1,200gns for Helsington Barcelona Stenove sired by the chart topper FDL Barcelona. She was bred from a Very Good 88 classified dam by Fantom.

The overall top price went to the herd sire bred by John Greenop from Wigton, Bridgedale Barbarian.  He was a grandson of Duncan Belle the three time All Canadian Jersey cow that was also a three time Grand Champion at the Royal Winter Fair.  This close to perfect young bull sold for 3,200gns to Messrs Webb, Ayrshire.
