Jersey trade on fire at Hartlandview Dispersal!

Kivells held the on farm Dispersal sale of the “Hartlandview” herd of 430 Pedigree Jerseys & Guernseys at Hartlandview Farm, Barnstaple, Devon on behalf of Andrew & Debbie Lewis on Monday 6th August 2018.

A massive crowd packed the sale ring with buyers from Northern Ireland, Southern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Yorkshire, Leicestershire, Oxfordshire, Cheshire, Shropshire, Wiltshire and all over the South West. Trade was on fire from start to finish and it was the Jersey breed in particular that was in huge demand and several buyers left empty handed! Top of the day was 2300gns for a fresh third calver “Holmfirth Engabe Chrissy” by Shellen Engage, she sold to Riverview Farms of Northern Ireland who purchased 34 head.

At 2200gns was “Whitefire Legacy Fig” a fourth calver by Hollylane Lilibets Legacy bred from 4 generations of VG or EX dams from John Heath’s Ravenfield herd and fittingly John travelled a long distance from East Yorkshire to secure this family line back into his herd.

Another fourth calver sold well at 2100gns for “Kit Star Topburn” by Potterswalls DJ Star to Riverview Farms who also secured “Rapidbay-UK Divine Redpath” a third calver due next spring and “Liddimore Kyros Velvet” a super Mulberry second calver by Sunset Canyon Kyros due in November, both at 2100gns. “Bluegrass Cougars Bramble” a third calver by Bluegrass Corrianders Cougar created strong demand and sold at 2100gns to Phil Manning of Shropshire.

A sixth calving cow “Fourcrosses May Wheat” by DJ May sold exceptionally well at 1900gns to Iain & Susan Howie of Wiltshire.

Dry Cows topped at 2150gns for “Woodbine Sundrop” a third calver by Futuredreams Signatures Volcano, she sold to David & Tracy Grigg of Bideford who also purchased “Fourcrosses Billy Celendine” at 1850gns. Other dry cows sold to 1800gns, 1750gns, 1700gns, 1650gns, 1600gns and many between 1300-1500gns.

Guernseys met more of a selective trade but the best still sold well topping at 2000gns for “Hartland View Katapult Puccinellia” a second calver having calved in January, she sold to Maurice & Phil Durbin for their Bickfield herd in Bristol. “Hartland View King Lilac” a second calver by Tredinney Princes Lion King due next February, she sold to Steve Poad of Saltash. Another second calver by Boskenna Junes Royal Oak sold at 1550gns to Messrs BG Nicholls who purchased 22 Guernseys to join their Holstein herd in North Devon.

“Hartland View Indante Fancy” was a smart heifer by the much admired sire Tredinney Yogis Andante sold due in October to Phil Manning. Several of the best Guernseys sold well between 1200 - 1400gns. Other volume buyers were Alex Green who purchased 48 head of both breeds for his herd in Somerset and Robert Gray purchased 95 Cows & 56 Youngstock of both breeds to join his herd in Perth, Scotland. There was only one Jersey In Calf Heifer which sold at 1300gns and the Guernseys met selective interest and topped at 1120gns. Bulling heifers saw Guernseys to 620gns twice for daughters of Aber Sampson and Jerseys sold to 570gns x 5.

This sale was without doubt one of the best sales to have taken place for some time and produced the following excellent averages:
